Who is the Non-Lucrative Visa for?
The Non-Lucrative Visa for Spain is for non-EU citizens who want to reside in Spain for at least a year and do not need to carry out any work activity. Whether you are retired or not, you can apply if you have sufficient financial means.
Keep in mind that it can only be processed in your country of residence, through the Spanish Consulate or Embassy. Once in Spain, you can renew it without returning to your country.

How much money do I need for the Non-Lucrative Visa?
You need 400% of the IPREM per month for the main applicant — about €2,400 a month or €28,800 a year — plus 100% of the IPREM (about €600 a month) for each family member. The IPREM is updated every year, so we confirm the current figure with you.
Can I apply from Spain?
No. The Non-Lucrative Visa must be requested in person at the Spanish Consulate or Embassy for your place of residence. Once it's approved, you collect the visa and enter Spain within its validity.
Can I work with a Non-Lucrative Visa?
No. This permit allows you to live in Spain without carrying out any work or professional activity. If you want to keep working remotely for foreign clients or employers, the Digital Nomad Visa is usually the right option.
How long is the visa valid and how do I renew it?
The initial permit is valid for one year from your entry into Spain. You can then renew it for two years, and again for two more. After five years of legal residence you can apply for long-term residence.
Do I have to live in Spain all year?
To renew your permit you must have actually lived in Spain for more than 183 days in the calendar year, so it is not suitable if you plan to spend most of the year abroad.
Can my family come with me?
Yes. Your spouse or partner and children can apply with you, showing an additional 100% of the IPREM per month for each of them.
Will I pay taxes in Spain?
If you spend more than 183 days a year in Spain you will normally become a Spanish tax resident and pay tax on your worldwide income. Our tax advisors can help you plan this before you move.
What do I have to do when I arrive in Spain?
You must register on the padrón (town hall register) and apply for your residence card (TIE) at the police station within one month of entering Spain. We book both appointments for you.
